Life and Homeschool Wrap-Up
These past thirty days have carried a very particular kind of magic- the quiet kind you don’t notice at first because it settles in slowly. If I had to capture the vibe of this season, it would be reflective, home-based, and twinkly.
Not the showy sort of twinkly, the gentle kind.
The kind that happens when you finally find yourself breathing easier, leaning into your routines, and noticing how good it feels to just be with the people you love.
Something shifted for us this month.
I felt less stressed, less scrambled, less like I was bracing myself for the next thing.
Instead of waiting for life to decide the pace, we’ve been settling into our own rhythm- living life on our terms as our tiny little trio.
There’s something powerful about that, even when nothing “big” is happening.
Especially then.

Our Everyday Rhythm Right Now
Our days have been soft and steady.
We wake up slowly, cook breakfast together, and sit down to eat with soft Christmas music playing in the background.
It’s become one of my favorite little rituals- the gentle way we ease into the day.
Homeschool stretches from mid-morning into early afternoon.
We usually start with ELA and roll into Math, then lunch and a bit of rest.
In the afternoons we dive into science and a fun activity before shifting into dinner prep and waiting for her dad to get home.
The simplicity of it is working for us, and I’ve promised myself to stick to our routines with more intention now.
Not perfection- just presence.
A habit I’m proud of this month?
Taking the stairs more often.
It sounds tiny, but I genuinely feel the increase in energy.
The one part of the day I’m still wrestling with is that 2:30 afternoon slump.
It hits hard; the same way it probably hits every mom everywhere.
One silly, joy-sparking outing was when Allie went to a fall party at her dance studio and her dad and I went on a “date” to the grocery store.
Nothing glamorous, just goofy and fun- the kind of date where you hold hands in the pickle aisle and laugh about nothing.

What We’re Reading
Reading, for me, has been harder to squeeze in lately, but I’m working on it.
I’ve had my eye on a book, waiting for a moment when my brain feels ready to settle into a story.
Allie, meanwhile, has launched herself into the Unicorn Academy series (<<< affiliate link), starting with Sophia and Rainbow.
Anything whimsical, dreamy, or magical gets her hooked immediately.
We also use the literature from her ELA curriculum as read-alouds, so even when time feels tight, stories still find their way in.
One big highlight this month was the library book sale- the legendary $5 tote bag deal.
We always fill at least one (okay, two) bags and come home with treasure.

Homeschool Things: Lessons, Advent Calendars, and Hands-On Everything
This month has been full of hands-on learning.
Allie has a science advent calendar, which has been such a fun daily ritual.
She’s also deep in a unit on Native Americans and the early explorers, and it’s been sparking great conversations.
Hands-on learning is huge for us- cooking, crafting, science projects, art, life skills- all woven together.
One of our upcoming plans is a big Christmas cookie baking day.
Allie is ready.
We’ve also been focusing on budgeting and time management.
I want her to understand those life skills early; they’re as essential as multiplication tables.
We had one tough math day with rounding and estimation.
She was frustrated, but we sat together, worked through it, and I surprised myself with how patient I was.
Those are the moments I’ll remember.
And my favorite lesson to pass on this month?
Kindness when others are being mean.
People can be wrong, loud, hurtful- but that doesn’t mean you have to follow them down the same path.
Games, Movies & Screens That Are Filling Our Evenings
After dinner, the three of us have been playing Exit- The Magical Academy (<<< affiliate link) the escape room game series- and we already finished this one and can’t wait to get the next.
These little after-dinner game nights feel like such a simple but meaningful ritual.
Sunday afternoons (when possible) have become Disney movie afternoons.
The perfect mix of cozy, nostalgic, and predictable.
Allie also loves Adventure Academy- fun for her, educational for me, with parental controls that make my life easier.
Win-win.
She’s also into Katseye, K-pop Demon Hunters, My Talking Angela, and Sophie from Cherry Pop Productions Gaming.
Her whimsical heart is strong.
Silly YouTube videos are the soundtrack of our evenings, especially when we’re cuddled up on the couch.
And a big proud moment: she mastered a dance move she’s been working on for weeks.
Watching her joy was like watching fireworks.

Mom Stuff: Shows, Communities & Little Wins
Allie’s dad and I started watching Heroes together, which has been such a fun throwback.
And I’ve been loving Homeschool Moms Unfiltered- it’s been grounding and hilarious and exactly the kind of connection I’ve needed.

I haven’t treated myself to much this month yet, but I do have a Wishlist brewing.
December tends to bring out the “ooh, I want that” energy.
A big professional win: I created a Christmas workbook for Teachers Pay Teachers and got a sale within 24 hours.
That felt incredible.
Home & Holidays
We’re keeping decorations minimal since we’re not in our own place yet, but the tree will be up by the time this post goes live.
The family room- which doubles as our school room- feels cozy and lived in, which is exactly what we need right now.
Thanksgiving at my brother’s was fun as always, and the whole holiday season feels gentler this year.
One day at a time is the motto.
It’s all we can do- and honestly, that’s enough.
The Hard Stuff & The Heart Stuff
Financially, things aren’t great.
We’re working on it.
We’ll get there.
Anxiety is always hovering, but I haven’t had a really bad day in a while, which feels like a quiet victory.
And the biggest source of comfort?
My daughter’s joy.
She could fill a stadium with it.
Her laughter, her brightness, her oddball humor- it keeps me steady.
And perfectionism?
I let that shit go.
Truly.
Not sugarcoating it.
Looking Ahead
I’m looking forward to finishing Christmas shopping and celebrating with the people who genuinely care about us.
I want to carry more intention into the new year: managing my time better so I can do what needs to be done and still make space for what I want to do.
I’m also determined to get to bed earlier.
My mind and body will thank me.
And if you’re reading this feeling behind, stressed, or lonely- I promise you, you’re not alone.
Take a breath.
Slow down.
Your pace is okay.
And if you’re looking for simple routines, meal ideas, cozy habits, or just a breather in your day, hop over to my other blog Unscripted Mom Life.
