Sep 13 Liz Kamarul and her Winnebago @liz_kamarul

With the coolest Winnebago in town, this "home tour" is with the amazing Liz Kamrul, who has given up her day job to go travelling in her van around the United States, looking for somewhere new to call home. I am totally in awe of someone who can just take off and choose a different life for a while, to be brave and give up what you know for something new, and to do it in such style!

Prior to setting out travelling Liz worked staging homes, following a degree in interior design. Her bungalow in Portland, Oregon was a popular feature on blogs and Instagram and in many publications.

Filled with items she had carefully thrifted and with art and plants to give a fantastic boho look "moody, plant loving, bohemian retreat" is how Liz describes it here so it was no surprise that when she announced her and her husband Tim were renovating an old Winnebago, that it would turn out to be an incredibly stylish place to hang out.

Introduction

Hi, I'm Liz Kamarul,

I'm a follow no rules, go with your gut, designer and stylist. A thrift shopper at the core and a plant lover.

I grew up in beautiful Sandpoint Idaho and spent most of my 20's traveling to different parts of the world. Including a couple years in Australia.

Now, in my 30's I'm determined to combine my two obsessions, design and travel. Currently, travelling the country in our renovated 1982 Winnebago living a carefree life and offering design consults along the way.

Before we left for the trip I was a home stager, I did that for 3 years. Now Tim and I and our two dogs Cudi and Bo are living in an RV touring the states. We've been on the road over two months and 3,000 miles, with probably two more months to go. We decided to quit our jobs and take this trip because we wanted to stir things up and start fresh. While we're on the road we are looking for a new place to move, so far, the contenders are Long Beach, Dallas or New Orleans.

The inspiration for the RV didn't come from one particular place or person. It's very bohemian and busy for sure and it's still changing!!

We have been planning this journey since August 2016 and thought we would save a ton of money but as per usual we really didn’t. Fortunately, we made it work in different ways. This year we had a tax return so all of that was set aside (about $2,000), my grandparents had left me $3,000 that I’ve been holding on to for a special occasion and this seemed like the perfect thing to use it on. We also sold almost everything in our house and made around $3,500.

So, the day we left (June 1st, 2017) we had $8,500 set aside.

While we’re on the road I will be working with companies as an influencer and expect to make some extra money doing that. I think having that opportunity is such a gift, I get to choose brands that I love and want to help grow their businesses while supporting our journey.

Total renovation cost of the RV was around $6805 and the RV cost $5000.

I have been obsessed with interiors all of my life and began thrifting very early on, says Liz.

The beautiful wall hanging is from Wanderlux Jewelry and looks like it was custom made for the space but it wasn’t, it’s just perfect that’s all! We installed a wall mount to hang our computer monitor which acts as our TV and a small shelf to hold the sound bar and cell phones for charging. We stream all of our shows from Tim’s phone using an adapter.
Another pull out drawer was added under the bed to create more storage without having to remove the entire mattress! The divider for the bathroom used to be an accordion door but it was in bad shape. We kept the ceiling track in ran on and ordered new glides with hooks so we could hang a curtain… Not much privacy in the Winnebago!

We had a custom mattress made from Brentwood home and it was the best decision. Having a comfortable bed makes such a difference and really makes the RV feel like home and a place we look forward to staying in. We added the sconce in the bedroom from Rejuvenation as well, it’s the only new light we added but helps in making the space feel more like a home and less like an RV.
