Always with something fresh and exciting to see, I first stumbled across this stunningly unique home on Instagram. Judy Aldridge of Atlantis Home, was one of the first people I followed in the USA, because I just love her incredible use of textiles, mixed with flea market finds, lots and lots of greenery, and fantastic art, which all comes together into one of the most beautiful homes, I have come across, full of personality and items that Judy loves. Judy's style is an unashamedly bold mix of colourful, boho eclectic, vintage maximalism. Creative designer, thrifter extraordinaire and boho queen, she is definitely one to follow.  Go enjoy the home tour!

And, if you want to see more of Judy's home or shop her style you can here.

Judy recently painted a black wall in her master bedroom, which for a dark lover like me, shows off her fabulous textiles to perfection. Textiles that Judy sources from around the world. "the dark colour makes the headboard pop" says Judy.

Introduction

First of all, my home is a 70’s modern in a very quiet suburb just outside of Dallas. I moved in 12 years ago, and at the time, our two girls lived at home.  They’ve since moved out, and I think it was at this time I started really sharing my home on my blog and Instagram.

I would call my style bohemian, modern eclectic.  I think that’s a nice fancy way to say I’m a big junker!!  My home is completely decorated with vintage items—even my bedding is antique Belgium linen.  It’s a mix of a little bit of everything. As some of you may know, I share my home with 7 rescue Chihuahuas, and one spoiled 12 year old Maltipoo, so everything must be dog friendly and washable to a point.

One of my favourite things to collect is art and antique rugs.  Because of my 4-legged family, I don’t get to use my rugs as much as I would like to—but trust me, they are piled and stashed everywhere. When you see a rug in a shot on my Instagram, it is usually swooped away as soon as shooting is finished. (sadly) My art collection seems to grow daily. The bigger it gets, the more passionate I become about collecting.  I’m trying hard to use restraint at the moment, but I rarely meet a painting that I don’t like.  Right now, I’m into abstract moderns. I love to mix my art collection with various rotating antique rugs.  It’s a combination that rarely fails me.

When I design a new room, I don’t use sketches or really much thought.  I usually feel it’s time for a change, then I will get a vision in my head of how I want the new space to look. I usually incorporate pieces that I have in storage, but sometimes I get a vision of something I must have that is not in my collection.  That’s when the hunt begins.  That’s always the best part!!!!

Plants hang from every ceiling in Judy's house, an idea she picked up in a cafe in Europe. Judy found the ornate folding screen in her living room at Consignment Haven, one of her favorite stores in Dallas.

"I have always had a fascination with the idea of Atlantis, the city under the sea. The image of a perfectly preserved dreamscape city under the indigo water inspired me." says Judy

"Eight years ago, I began my brand, Atlantis Home, to collectively preserve the beautiful evolution of my style, images of my ever-changing home, and to show off the textiles I had come across during my travels, especially those that I have a deep love for. Through my blog and Instagram, I have been able to show you my experiences, my tastes as a blogger who has been in the industry for over ten years, and the textiles I’ve accumulated.

"In my store, you will find stunning, hand-woven textiles from Guatemala and Mexico that will spruce up any bohemian home. From throw pillows and blankets to large hand-woven rugs, you will be able to create the look of your perfect boho living space. " says Judy.

Judy likes to change her living room around, sometimes twice a year, showcasing different art that she is an avid collector of.
